Server
In server applications, the power supply industry requires high efficiency, high density and high quality and reliability. International Rectifier is enabling the industry to move forward to higher performance PFC circuits, lower EMI filtering requirements, and higher efficiency in SMPS. Desktop Desktop computer power supplies convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), needed for the computer. Standard box units for computer power supplies are defined with industry-standard names, for instance, ATX, FlexATX, microATX, AT, LPX, NLX, SFX and TFX. There are a variety of computer motherboard styles and cases available. Most case styles have a corresponding power supply type. Common choices for DC output voltage include +/- 3.3 V, +/- 5 V, +/- 12 V, +/- 15 V, +/- 24 V and +/- 48 V. The number of outputs, DC output current and power are also important to consider. The DC output current is the output current corresponding to the primary DC voltage output. AC inputs include input voltage and input frequency. Choices for input voltage include 115 VAC and 230 VAC. Input frequencies for computer power supplies can be 50 Hz, 60 Hz, or 400 Hz. Adaptor AC-DC adapters accept AC input voltage directly from a wall outlet, and output DC voltage. The primary configurations are wall-mount, where the adapter unit plugs directly into a wall and the DC lead then goes to the DC device, and desk mount, where the adapter unit is in-line between the AC plug and the DC output. Many DC-operated devices use this type of adapter or power supply such as laptop computers, LCD displays, printers and so on. An important environmental parameter to consider when specifying AC-DC adapters is operating temperature; therefore high efficiency and high power density are required. International Rectifier is enabling the industry to move to high performance, high efficiency PFC circuits, more compact ZVS topologies, and higher efficiency SMPS for this special market.
